so facebook. probably single-handedly responsible for the demise of americans being able to communicate with others in actual settings. but thats not the issue i have with facebook--i have family in england and alabama so facebook allows me to talk to them more often and less expensively than a long distance phone call. well less expensively as in freely since you dont pay for facebook. also when im upstate at school its much easier for me to see how my long island peeps are doing because of the social networking site.
first and formost, facebook leads to fights. lets say someone who likes your man posts something flirty on his wall. you get annoyed, of course. its not his fault but you get mad that he didnt delete it. right there, facebook is affecting your personal life.
thats another thing..what happens when u break up? everyone on fb hears about it, including your mom, your extended family in california, your old high school teachers, your ex's family and all your old acquaintances. hence, it allows creepers to move in and get all flirty with u. plus its negative attention. a public messy facebook breakup for your closest 635 friends to witness is not ideal.
adults on facebook are also interesting. sometimes its fine--my mom has one, and uses it to keep me in check. she goes on occasionally, not obsessively. in the past she has messaged me to remove a certain picture or delete a comment that was offensive and could hurt me in the long run. thats fine. also, like i said above, we have family all over the world, so fb is a easier way to see how everyones doing. i understand if adults are networking for their jobs or using it to stay connected with far away family. but when you get moms or aunts or worse..dads! that go crazy with picture comments, or, still worse...FACEBOOK GAMES..then you have a problem! A girl i know from high school has a boyfriend who travels a lot. he puts up pix of his adventures. ok, thats fine. but his mom and aunt comment on every.single.one. necessary? maybe not.
facebook games..im one to talk because im addicted to farmville (thankfully i kicked the mafia wars addiction last year haha). but when your over the age of, say, 25..get a life! stop playing games, do something with your life. get a hobby, clean your house, upload family pictures or something, but stop publishing to your profile that you go the newest high score in family feud or need help building this horse stable. i play when i need a distraction from college homework, and so do a lot of others. when you have a real job, or at least are old enough to have a real job, its pathetic to still be addicted to zynga games. your an adult and your soooo immature! grow up!!!
i really think everyone should limit their usage of this social networking site. yes, its great to see pictures from when your friends traveled abroad and to congratulate someone when they become an aunt, but really, try to stop with the profile stalking and obsessively checking =)
until next time,
~sam
