i'm samantha, i'm 20 going on 21 and i am a junior English major, but im not here to use proper grammar. im athletic but i also love to write and figured a blog would be a good way to keep up with writing and also help get my thoughts out in a constructive way. i have a lot of opinions about society, especially how i think humanity is suffering because of the "gimme generation" (details on that later). i write mostly poetry but also dabble in prose and want to get into short fiction and all that jazz..hope someone finds this interesting!

to tan or not to tan?

sooo the debate over indoor tanning is raging this week. once again, the local tanning bed place is offering its free tan week. you literally walk in, choose how long you wanna go in for, and tan fo' free. its kind of awesome and since i only go once a year for the free week, i dont feel like its too bad for me. i know it causes skin cancer, premature aging, and other crap...but honestly that stuff really only applies to people who go DAILY or every 3 days or so. that is HORRIBLE. and i saw a bunch of those people today..so gross!  som were orange, some were brown and leathery, some just were so wrinkly it looked unnatural.

i would never go to that extent--honestly, a nice tan isnt worth all the wrinkles or looking like snooki. there's a limit..but its hard when studies show that tanning indoors is actually addicting. lots of people say that during and right after tanning, they feel peaceful and content. i agree; its theraputic to lay in the bed and just get warm for a few minutes (i never go for more than 7 minutes...or else i'd come out looking like a lobster and be just as cranky as one).  its just relaxing.

i can see how some people get easily addicted to that feeling. some scientists even say that theraputic "high" you get from indoor tanning can be healthy--it can reverse the winter depression people get, and also ups your intake of Vitamin D, which is very good for ya. so basically, tanning is very very small doses isnt as terrible as people make it seem.

so what do you guys think..anyone agree/disagree/wanna share tanning stories?

like...the first time i went i panicked because i thought i was going to get trapped inside and die by frying to death like in thatf inal destination movie. so i left one hand out so i could free myself if necessary! haha.

until next post,
~sam

  1. I have never gone tanning as you probably already know this. I was just never into it. Seeing as I am somewhat tan all year around, I felt that tanning would just make me a little darker and not do much. I much prefer tanning the natural way :)

  4. I can see both sides to this statement. I only went tanning once last year during the free tanning at the dunkirk tan bed, and I was PETRIFIED...like you said, i had one arm out bc I thought I was going to get trapped and I didn't feel comfortable or relaxed at all...and I only went for 5 minutes which didn't do anything. shah but it is true..especially during this winter and a 100% believer in "SAD" Seasonal Affective Disorder, some type of light is better for our happiness and health. And to have a little color whether it is spray on, tanning bed, or good ol natural sunburning-freckle tan like us fair-skinned freaks makes us look and feel a lil bit better.
