i'm samantha, i'm 20 going on 21 and i am a junior English major, but im not here to use proper grammar. im athletic but i also love to write and figured a blog would be a good way to keep up with writing and also help get my thoughts out in a constructive way. i have a lot of opinions about society, especially how i think humanity is suffering because of the "gimme generation" (details on that later). i write mostly poetry but also dabble in prose and want to get into short fiction and all that jazz..hope someone finds this interesting!

a national blue ribbon school of excellence...

well as i'm sure my long islanders know, this morning my high school vice-principal Gerald Waldman was arrested for stealing over $100,000 from the school to pay his personal expenses.  While i think this is awful (and TOTALLY explains why the chairs and textbooks were from the 50s and barely staying together) i feel sympathy.  I feel awful for the stdents who go there now; how must that feel to be in that enviornment where now you cant even trust the adults around you? I feel bad for our principal Mrs Debra Ledowski, who must be dealing with a ton of crap right now. Poor Deb, like she doesnt have enough to deal with. Poor staff, now i'm sure everyone's going to be under tighter surveillance when dealing with any amount of money.

i honestly cant believe this happened...the guy was a sweet old man. funny, nice, and he had a style that can only be described positively. sure, he may have yelled at me once or twice for wearing tank tops with spaghetti straps (we had to have straps at least 1 inch wide and i got called to the principals office just about every year for breaking this stupid rule), but honestly the guy was just following protocol. i never blamed teachers for reprimanding me when i deserved it. and i got away with so much crap anyway haha; the Deb impressions, writing on certain peoples' lockers, the many senior pranks during locker clean up hahahaha the list goes on and on.

this guy was funny, too. he walked with a swagga, he danced like a teenager at our senior awards dance and even tried his hand at DJ-ing at prom. he was almost like an authority figure that was more of a friend. some of the teachers at sewanhaka may have been just regular teachers but some of them were really kind and reached out to the students. i felt like mr waldman and the vice principal before him, mr farina, were just like that. although mr farina yelled at me a lot more for the dress code more haha.

but honestly, mr waldman looked smarter than that. why he would need to steal money at all, let alone the amount that he embezzled. i just feel bad and its kind of horrible that sewanhaka faculty has been getting bad press the last few years. an art teacher was also fired a few years back for unsavory circumstances and he was one of my favorite teachers. i had him for ap art history and the guy was awesome--had a great, sarcastic sense of humor and always joked with us when the 6 of us in the class giggled at the naked statues we had to study. he taught me more about art than i learned in my college level course, and he was a harsh grader so he made sure we all studied our butts off.

it just seems like nice people have been doing stupid things lately that cost them notonly their jobs, but their lives and reputations. somethings wrong when good people turn to crime, and its really, really sad.
